A never-before released Donald Byrd & Bobby Jaspar 1958 live recordings.
First official release with the full permission and cooperation INA (Institut National de l’Audiovisuel).

Donald Byrd’s residency in Paris in 1958 to study with composer Nadia Boulanger gave rise to one of the greatest bands of his career with Bobby Jaspar on tenor sax and flute, Walter Davis, Jr. on piano, Doug Watkins on bass and Art Taylor on drums.
Sam Records is proud to present this previously unreleased concert by the Donald Byrd/Bobby Jaspar Quintet recorded during the evening dedicated to ‘Modern Jazz’ during the 1st and only Cannes Jazz Festival on July 11th 1958. What a surprise! Sam Records has undoubtedly become a reference in the world of modern jazz. And this time he has done it again: another great vinyl for audio-phile collectors. Definitely another success for Sam Records. I have already reserved my copy and I wish I could watch the needle fall on that 180 g vinyl and also mono… a show! And at an incredible price! Congratulations friends!

As always, Sam Records is the best.Wonderful mono sound, great remastering, super great packaging, everything is top notch. Fred is doing absolutely fantastic work!

  3. Will

Every release by Sam Records is outstanding, so of course, one should anticipate this recording with high expectations! This will be my 6th Sam Record to date, so looking forward to spinning this baby when it arrives.

Amazing good recording and presentation on vinyl. A fine job throughout the entire chain. The monaural sound is most preferable for this kind of music and top notch even when picked up with a stereo cartridge. All of my SAM records issues were „blind buys“ and my confidence in Fred‘s ambitious work has always been highly rewarded with wonderful releases. Thank you so much, Fred!
